Gypsy Soul

It’s been quite some time since my last blog post, blame it on my gypsy soul.

If you follow me on Instagram then you’re probably well aware that I was recently wandering around Europe for 2 weeks and I can’t wait to (find the time to) share my travel diary with you all!

As for today, here’s a look I wore a few weeks back that fashionably portrays my gypsy soul.  I came across this hi-low maxi skirt on the clearance rack at Express and I simply could not resist its down to earth gypsy vibes. The hi-low trend is a merger between the mini skirt and maxi skirt and is the perfect way to show off your gams (and killer shoes) while still being comfortably covered. I love them for summer with heeled or flat sandals, but will easily transition into fall paired with booties or knee high boots.

What’s your take on the hi-low trend?

Mixing Business with Pleasure

If you’ve stopped by recently, you may have noticed that tropical prints are currently having a moment here on Sun Fun Fashion.  From tropical flowers and flamingos, to this gorgeous palm print you see below, this summer I’m gravitating towards prints a bit more “groundbreaking” than just florals.

Although the length and shape of this skirt make it adequately work appropriate, the tropical print can make it appear more like resort wear than work wear.  So how do you wear fun tropical prints to work while still showing everyone you mean business?  Well, all you have to do is mix a little bit of business with pleasure.

Pairing a tropical print with a more subdued work wardrobe staple, such as a solid blazer or cape balances out the bold print, making it work-ready. Another tip when wearing tropical prints to work (or anywhere, really) is to keep your accessories simple and to a minimum. You do not want to look like a tropical Christmas tree.

So don’t limit the use of your tropical printed garbs to poolside lounging and leisure.  When it comes to making the most of this fun and bold summer trend, mixing a little bit of business with pleasure can prove to be a recipe for fashion success!

Work Style Wednesday: Spring Casual

Today’s look is a bit more casual than what you guys are used to seeing from me, but by all means, still very work appropriate.  Having to bear with a strict “no jeans” policy at work can have a girl scrambling to find a stylish alternative to the oh-so versatile blue jean on a Friday morning.  And since scrambling and fussy clothing are no way to start your Friday morning, the fashion gods created khakis!

Equally as comfy and versatile as jeans, you can pair your khakis with virtually any solid or printed top in your wardrobe. I wore my khakis with this perfectly floral top and accessorized with my favorite springtime handbag by Vince Camuto, andcurrent shoe obsession, my YSL Tribute’s; both of which you’ve seen before recently and will likely see a lot more of this spring!

What’s your casual style?

Work Style Wednesday: Muumuu(ish)

If I had to pick one dress to wear for the rest of my life, it would be this H&M Hi-Low A-Line dress right here. The only thing that disappoints me about this dress is that it was not manufactured in every single color and print known to man.

Sure, its shape could be compared to that of the Muumuu, but its fun and airy vibe is simply perfect for spring! Besides, don’t be so closed-minded, this muumuu er dress (and this one too) can bring sexy back real quick, simply by adding a chunky belt creating a more cinched, flirty look.  I paired my fun and flowy muumuu with my new obsessions, my Yves Saint Laurent Tribute T-Strap Sandals; a hard earned gift to myself for kicking ass at work.

Speaking of work!! It’s Work Style Wednesday and I can’t wait for my dose of work style inspiration!

Head-to-Toe Fall Faves

Today’s look is comprised of my Head-to-Toe Fall Faves!

1.  Wool Fedora – Perhaps my #1 favorite Fall accessory! Perfect for Miami’s sunny fall weather! Look fierce while protecting that gorgeous skin from the sun!

2.  Blood Wine Lips – Bold, bloody lips scream Fall and I can’t tell you how many compliments/questions I get about this lip color combo.  To achieve this look I use a MAC lip pencil called “Currant” and a Wet-n-Wild lip color called “Sugar Plum Fairy” #908C.

3.  Dual Pearl Studs – As seen on virtually every single fashion blogger in the universe at the moment, these dual pearl earrings are the perfect combination of femininity and edge and I just can’t put them down!

4.  Chambray (Denim) – Denim, chambray and more denim! Head-to-toe denim a/k/a The Canadian Tuxedo is one of Fall 2014’s most popular trends and this light Chambray button down from Forever 21 is the ideal tone to pair with slightly darker denim to achieve that perfect Canadian Tuxedo look.

5.  Leather- Leather is a no brainer for Fall, but full blown leather leggings in Miami’s “Faux Fall” are still impossible to endure (maybe in January), therefore these black leggings with faux leather paneling are the perfect alternative!

6.  Wedge Booties– I have to admit wedged boots are something that have slowly grown on me.  Comfort is perhaps the #1 reason for my newfound love of them.   Living in Brickell and working in Downtown call for a heavy pedestrian lifestyle and I can walk for miles and miles in these rock star-ish Vince Camuto wedge booties.

Also wearing: Gold Shark Tooth Necklace; Tan Envelope Clutch; Wraparound Leather Cuff Bracelet; Pave Criss-Cross Ring; Shark Mouth Midi-Ring.

Fancy Wednesday: Booties

As much as I would LOVE to start posting “Fall Fancies” to include my favorite fall trends such as moto-jackets and over- the-knee boots, let’s face it, what kind of psycho would I appear to be– considering I live in Miami!

BOOTIES, however, are the perfect way to slowly ease into Fall without suffering from heat stroke.  Whether you prefer sheer, zippered, lace-up, studded or fringed booties, pair them with your short skirts and shorts (for the time being) for a sexy and edgy Semi-Fall look!

Flower Punch

Hello, my name is Martha and I am a Floral-holic!!

This has certainly been the year of floral print for me, but can you blame me? Floral prints have come a very long way.  Today’s floral prints are not reminiscent of your “abuela’s” curtains, today’s floral prints are abstract, digital, geometric and just plain exhilarating.

Okay, so now that I have declared my addiction and justification for my love of florals, let’s talk about this irresistible, floral skater skirt I found while perusing the racks at TJ Maxx.  With two other floral items already in hand I tried to resist it, but with it’s punchy floral print and $10.00 price tag, surrender was the only option. I grabbed it, held it up for my BFF to approve to which she replied “are you kidding me? That has YOU written ALL over!” Lol!

I decided to tone down the punch a bit with a silky ivory v-neck and cork sandals.  Cork sandals are extremely versatile. I.M.O.: they can be paired with essentially any casual or semi-casual ensemble. I just love them for summer! To kick the punch back up a bit, I grabbed my Vince Camuto Color Block Satchel with a similar punchy tone.     * F.Y. I. Color Block handbags are back with a vengeance for Fall 2014 fashion!

The rest of my outfit details are below!  I hope you enjoy this look as much I did!

Hope you enjoyed the FLOWER PUNCH!

Summer Lovin’

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Yup! Summa Time! And nothing says summer quite like maxi dresses! I’ve had this gorgeous Jessica Simpson pleated maxi dress sitting in my closet since my friend’s pre-wedding celebration in Mexico as seen in this post.

I knew the next time I wore this dress I wanted to style it in a more casual fashion, therefore I opted for another summer staple no woman (or man) should be without; a Blazer Vest!  If you know me, you know I have an obsession with blazers.  Well, blazer vests are just perfect for our steamy Miami weather, however they also transition well into the fall and winter months.  Not that Miami has fall or winter, but just follow along.  Blazer vests are incredibly versatile, they pair great with shorts, skirts, pants or leggings and I just love pieces that can be dressed up and down for the day or night.

I am a little sad I couldn’t get pictures that truly depict the flow and beauty of this dress,  it was actively raining while my dear friend Teri snapped the photos below.  I’m hoping for better weather this weekend!

Weekend Gladiator

I promise I did everything in my power NOT to give into the “knee high gladiator” trend and well, I FAILED.  Miserably! See here’s what happened….

I do 95% of all my shopping online.  The other 5% happens when I am forced to physically step foot into a mall to either exchange or return something.  Well, about a week ago I stepped foot inside of Macy’s Dadeland to exchange an item when there they were….. standing tall and mighty a top the always tempting Vince Camuto display.

You see, in a magazine or online, these knee high gladiators can be more easily overlooked. I mean they don’t LOOK very comfortable or versatile, do they? However, once you see them in person they are simply irresistible! I simply could not resist trying them on, and as I walked around Macy’s shoe department for a feel, I quickly realized these fierce, flat gladiators were the most comfortable straps of leather I’ve had on my feet, EVER! I could seriously walk the entire Roman Trail in these puppies (pun intended). *Note to self: Plan a trip to Rome pronto!

Well, you can all guess how this story ends… I purchased them! This time around I wore them with a belted, single shouldered dress to bring some fun and femininity to the mix!  With their high level of comfort and intense ferocity, these sandals will surely be my “Weekend Gladiators” for the summer!

Happy Weekend, Gladiators!  May your weekend’s be thrilling and prosperous!

Trained for Glory

This past Saturday I celebrated one of my best girlfriend’s “Dirty Thirty” birthday and all I can say is we had TOO much fun, as is always the case when we are together! Here’s a look at what I wore…

I’ve had this gorgeous, sheer, long train blouse from SABO Skirt sitting in my closet for quite some time. The truth is I originally purchased it with the intention of wearing it with black, high-waisted dress shorts, but due to my own body awareness, I simply hated the final outcome. I am really big on dressing for my body type and feeling comfortable with what I am wearing. I’ve never really felt comfortable wearing shorts, so I am not sure what compelled me to purchase this blouse with that specific look in mind. My next thought was to try the blouse with pants and/or leggings and although the look was satisfactory, it just didn’t ignite that spark in my fashionista heart. Consequently, this gorgeous blouse hung in my closet for months, lost but not forgotten. Until glory finally struck me -a SKIRT!! Why had I not tried it with a skirt!! I was so focused and excited (in my head) to wear this blouse with shorts that when I actually saw it on myself (with shorts) and hated it, it completely clouded my creativity.

I’m glad I was able to get past the disappointment of not wearing this blouse as originally envisioned, because it really is an amazing blouse. It possesses the perfect balance of EDGE and FEMININITY- two adjectives that very accurately describe my all around personal style. What do you think?
