With Team U.S.A. advancing to the next round of the World Cup and the upcoming Independence Day holiday, it sure feels great to be an AMERICAN!  What better way to show off your patriotism than by wearing your RED, WHITE and BLUE!

Today’s look is all about “Americana”.  The term “Americana” refers to artifacts related to the history, geography, folklore and cultural heritage of the United States.  Well, considering how long I’ve owned the dress and button-down featured in today’s look, they might as well be documented as “Americana.”  You’ve seen me wearing each of these “artifacts” individually here and here, but in a combined effort to both repurpose these separates AND create a look that screams “U.S.A.” I decided to wear them together! What do you think?

*Fashion Tip* — Throwing a button-down shirt (sleeveless or not) over a sun/maxi dress is a great way of repurposing a dress.  You can tie the ends of the button-down in a knot at the bellybutton for a playful look (as seen below); wrap a belt around the waist for a polished look; or just let it hang loose for a laid back, casual stylo.

I wish our boys of the U.S. Men’s Soccer Team all the luck against team Belgium today!

If You Love Something Let It Go….

You’ve all heard the saying: “If you love something, let it go.  If it comes back to you, its yours forever.  If it doesn’t, then it was never meant to be.”  Well, although it is highly unlikely that “Unknown” was referring to a sequin embellished midi-skirt, it is this very quote that best describes my love affair with the skirt you see below.

Flashback about 15 years.

On a habitual Marshalls shopping trip with my mother, I instantaneously fell in love with the perfectly embellished, gold sequin beauty you see below. I convinced my mother that I absolutely NEEDED this skirt to further my existence and proceeded to list each and every upcoming event, Quinceañera, school dance and holiday I could potentially wear this skirt to; and I did.  I wore this skirt several times before deciding to do with it what I normally do with clothing I have convinced myself I will not wear again; give it to my mother to send to Nicaragua.

Well, my mother, being the borderline hoarder that she is, decided NOT to send this skirt to Nicaragua and kept it around for the day that (in my mother’s words) I “learned to appreciate choice pieces.”  About a month ago, more than 12 years later, my mother resurfaced this enchanting midi skirt and I fell in love all over again. With rich embellishments and midi-skirts being two of 2014’s hottest trends, I have to say this skirt’s feature on Sun Fun Fashion was simply meant to be.

This skirt really is enchanting.  I plan to keep it around quite possibly forever.  I consider it the first piece of my “Vintage Marshalls” Collection!

Thanks for your time! Have a wonderful day!

Nautical Chic

Happy Friday!! I am so happy to be returning to normality (just in time for the weekend) after spending the last two weeks being all types of sick and tired (of being sick)!! Today is the first day in two weeks that I actually feel like myself. I mean, I’ve been wearing flats for two weeks?? That’s how bad I’ve been feeling! But, enough about being sick and wearing flats…. Let’s talk “Outfit of the Day”!

What is it about nautical inspired looks that always make me feel chic, breezy and sophisticated? Perhaps the imagination of dressing for a day at sea aboard a lavish sail boat along the Mediterranean, or maybe the idea of being ready for an impromptu, chic Miami happy hour aboard a yacht. Can you tell I’m in full blown weekend mode?

I do love the ocean, so maybe that explains it? What I do know is that the nautical look is a classic, timeless look that every other year makes a major “comeback”. Well 2014 is one of those years. Stripes and nautical themes are part of just about every 2014 Spring/Summer look book and fashion runway and I for one am “anchoring” my affection on all things nautical this Spring/Summer season!

What do you think of my Marshalls #fabfound nautical inspired #ootd?
