Oh, February….The month of LOVE! If you’ve stopped by the blog lately and/or follow me on IG, you’ve probably noticed that my love affair with the color “Blush” is hot and heavy! For as long as I can remember, I have always been an admirer of virtually any shade of pink; and although I still find flamingo pink and hot pink simply irresistible, “Blush” seems a more appropriate approach for the maturer pink lover in me. My favorite way to describe the color “Blush” is: “Pink with a hint of vintage”. And you all know I love just about anything that can be classified under vintage!
Speaking of LOVE, Valentines Day is right around the corner and this year, instead of going for the cliche “LRD” (Little Red Dress), how about going for an “LBD”? Now every fashionista knows that “LBD” is actually the acronym for “Little Black Dress”, but for the sake of this post “LBD” will be defined as “Little Blush Dress”!
Regardless of whether you go for an “LBD” or an “LRD” fishnet stockings are a sure fire way of making your honey “blush” (pun totally intended) this Valentines Day. And if you can get your hands on a fishnet or lace bodystocking to wear under your “LBD” or “LRD”, well, just be sure to have rag ready to wipe the drool off your Valentines face.
I’ll be sharing more Valentines Day inspired looks throughout the next two weeks, so stay tuned!
In true #TBT manner, today I bring to you a look back at what I wore for Valentine’s Day last year, as well as a more recent past Valentine’s Day apropos ensemble. Hope you all have a magnificent day and don’t forget to stop by tomorrow for my Valentine’s Day Look of the Day!
Happy Hump Day Lovers!! Considering it’s Valentine’s Day- week, I hope you all have an “extra special” (wink, wink) Hump Day! Lol!
Today’s Valentine’s Day inspired look is dedicated to my love for one of a kind vintage finds! There’s nothing like the feeling of stepping into a vintage boutique; the smell, the stories, the possibilities… Ohhhhh! I get goosebumps just thinking about it! I scored this gorgeous, drop waist, pleated dress at Hubba Hubba Vintage Apparel in Burbank, California last summer. Burbank, California is home to all the major film production studios in the United States including, Warner Brothers, Disney, Universal, Paramount and Sony to name a few. As a result, Burbank is one of the absolute most amazing places to score vintage and thrift finds due to the large intake of items received from the studios upon completion of films and projects. Essentially, any item from a vintage or thrift shop in Burbank was more than likely used on a film set and/or probably worn by a major movie star, actor or extra. Pretty cool huh?
Although I don’t know exactly if and when this romantic, pleated dress was used on a film set, I imagine it being part of the wardrobe to a 1940- 1960 “Good Old Fashioned Love Story”! Something along the lines of “Casablanca” or “Thrill of a Romance” (two of my favorite “oldie, but goodie” films). In a more current film set, this dress would be a shoe in for the “Mad Men” wardrobe! Don’t you think?
What’s your favorite time period in fashion?

Valentine’s Day is this Friday and I just know the question on every woman’s mind is “What am I going to wear?” Well, you’re in luck because this week Sun Fun Fashion will be dedicated to bringing you a dash of inspiration to help you achieve your perfect Valentine’s Day look!
Interested in appearing 10 pounds thinner on Valentine’s Day? Yeah, so am I, but since I can’t tell you how to ACTUALLY shed 10 pounds in 4 days, I will focus on teaching you how to create the illusion of a thinner, more defined waist, by using the powers of optical illusion.
I recently purchased (practically stole) this amazing black/white dress by Calvin Klein at Loehmann’s liquidation sale. This dress is amazing and magical, yes magical and I will tell you why. The strategic white/black color blocking on this dress captures human eyes and focuses their attention to the lighter color of the dress instead of the whole dress, making a magical difference in how people see your body. See, our eyes are automatically attracted to light therefore the white center panel of this dress commands the eyes to concentrate on the center “hourglass” shape created by the contrasting black side panels. For these reasons, this type of dress was aptly nicknamed the “Optical Illusion Dress” by press and photographers who first photographed starlets donning this type of magical dress.
So there you go. If appearing thinner is one of your concerns when creating the perfect Valentine’s Day look or any day/night look, consider going for the very popular “Optical Illusion Dress.”
P.S. If any of you know how I can ACTUALLY shed 10 pounds from now till Friday, PLEASE (I beg you) e-mail me at Martha@sunfunfashion.com!
I hope you’re all having a lovely Valentine’s Day and spending it with someone dear to your soul, whether they are a parent, child, pet or lover! I personally don’t celebrate Valentine’s just because I feel like it’s a commercial holiday created to pressure people into buying ridiculously priced “tokens of affection.” I believe ANY day you receive the love of another is a blessing and a gift. However, this does not mean that I won’t dress for the occasion!
Today’s look is called “Wild at Heart” and basically it expresses my belief that fashion, like love, has no boundaries. The unexpected marriage of the leopard and heart prints create an ultra-chic and feminine look. The key to mixing prints is to create an abstract yet scaled look using colors that will help blend the prints. The key word is SCALE- once you have a large, bold print, be sure to pair it with a smaller, less dominant print. Two prints of equal scale will give your ensemble an overwhelming appearance that can be shocking to the eye. Go ahead! Mix your stripes with florals, your florals with leopards and your leopards with hearts, stars or polka-dots. I would not recommend mixing more than two prints at a time though, I believe mixing prints is like LOVE in that you can only really be in LOVE (mix) with one person (print) at a time. What’s your take on mixing prints? Love it or Hate it? Spill your heart out….Let me know what you think. Thanks for stopping by…. Muuuah!
