Something Special

How about that cold weather teaser we had yesterday? You “northerners” are probably thinking “Is this woman crazy? It was barely 50 degrees in Miami!!” Yes, this is true, but for us Miamians who are used to keeping toasty year round, fifty degrees is damn cold!

I personally have a love/hate relationship with cold weather. I love winter fashion, but I really hate the cold. I’m a sucker for jackets, boots(ies), gloves, suede, leather, you name it! But my absolute favorite winter piece is definitely the scarf! I get it from my mother (the woman has more scarves and pashminas than the entire population of Russia combined).

When I first laid eyes on this red lips print scarf at Marshalls it was love at first sight! This baby is a true statement piece. Notice how every other piece in this outfit is a basic, khakis, white button down, blazer- all basics.

Well, if you don’t already know, I don’t do basic. At least not without a little something special and this scarf is just that… Something Special!

KissRed Lip Print Scarf: Marshalls; White Button Down Shirt: Old Navy; Blazer: BCBG Max Azria c/o Loehmanns; Khaki Skinnies: Tommy Hilfiger c/o Macys; Handbag: Danielle Nicole– Alexa Mini Cross Body; Boots: NYLA c/o DSW; Lipstick: Christian Dior Addict Extreme in Sunset Blvd #829.kissimage_3kiss

Scarves are endlessly versatile accessories. Not only are there countless ways of wearing a scarf around your neck, but you can morph your scarf into a turban, waist sash, halter, beach cover up, or even a dress (using a combination of scarves). Check out make up artist and fellow blogger Tommy Beauty Pro’s post and tutorials on 25 Ways to Wear a Scarf.

Oh yea, scarves also look Tré-chic tied or wrapped around the top handles of a handbag. As seen here.

La Florida

Do not be fooled by the look featured on today’s post, the weather in South Florida is steamy, scorching hot and far from blazer appropriate. However, since I work indoors and my office is kept at subzero temperatures, a light blazer is a great way to look professional and keep warm. Of course, the moment I step foot outside the blazer comes off and wearing it outdoors for the sake of these pictures nearly caused me a heat stroke! I love sunny South Florida, but I’m crossing my fingers that we get some sort of winter this year!

ATTEN– TION!!!

Although I usually try to post my looks the same day or the day after wearing them, more often than not (like most working/living/breathing people) there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do all the things I’d like, such as blogging!  I wore this ensemble to dinner at Eating House a while back and I can’t deny that I’ve repeated this look several times since.

One of my favorite current trends of the season is the military chic trend.  Combat boots, camouflage, parkas and brass details are taking a forward march into every fashionista’s wardrobe this season and I for one, love the versatility and comfort of this trend.  For this military chic look I opted for a simple, yet fabulous T-shirt and sky-high boots.  This Lady Gaga VOGUE T-shirt was an obsession of mine for quite some time before finally getting my hands on it.  I first spotted it on Lala Noleto, a Brazilian fashion blogger I follow, but actually purchasing it from LAX Store, the Brazilian boutique it originated from was not an easy task.  After countless communications with the boutique trying to figure out a safe and cost effective method of purchasing and shipping the T-shirt, it just so happened that an LAX Store representative would be visiting Miami, staying at a nearby hotel and willing to travel with my selections to meet with me for the exchange!! Moral of the story: Persistence is Key!

You’ve seen this military style studded jacket before here, (from Express) minus the fur (which is a removable fur collar), the boots are NYLA, Khaki skinnies are Tommy Hilfiger c/o Macys, watch and ring both from Michael Kors, brass and rhinestone bracelet is from Sale Rack and satchel is Tory Burch.

What’s your favorite trend of 2013 so far?

Who Run the World?? GIRLS! GIRLS!

This past Saturday all the beautiful women in my family got together to celebrate my cousin Maria’s baby shower. Maria (and her wonderful hubby) have been blessed with their 2nd baby girl, Carolina Marie! The baby shower took place at Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar, located in Kendall, Miami, Florida. The food was absolutely delicious and any occasion in which all the women in my family can be together, is truly a blessing. For this very special occasion I wore a hot pink, pleated maxi dress by Halston Heritage, rose gold shoes by Michael Kors and a necklace from Sale Rack. Of course, I wasn’t the only fashionista in attendance, my cousin Maria was glowing in a gorgeous ruffled, ivory dress by Zara and hot pink, suede pumps by Dolce Vita.  My niece Angelina Marie, stole the show with her Marchesa/Neiman Marcus for Target fuschia, petal skirt dress (which my cousin has promised to hand down to me for my (distant) future baby girl) and last, but certainly not least, my beautiful niece, Victoria Cyane looked ravishing in a hot pink, embroidered Tommy Hilfiger dress and necklace from Loehmann’s ℅ Sun Fun Fashion.
