Work Style Wednesday: The Trouser

First of all let me just say that I am ecstatic to be a part of this fun and associative project alongside Nathalie of Earnestyle Blog!

As a part time blogger with a full time career outside of fashion, “work wear” pretty much governs the majority of my Monday – Friday style choices. I like to describe my personal work style as professional, yet playful.  While always keeping in mind my office dress code, I can’t ever resist adding a bit of color and flare to professional and structured pieces.

Today’s Work Style Wednesday look is the perfect example of how to add a little feminine flare to a work wear staple, the trouser.  Man or woman, the trouser is at the top of every working professional’s list of “must haves”.  And because trousers are so unisex, what better way of claiming a feminine stake on trousers than by adding a little bit (or a lot) of sparkle!

I absolutely love the fit of these Michael Kors Jogger Trousers, even though after breaking them in a bit I realized that they are a tad big on me.  Nothing a bit of tailoring can’t fix! Tailoring is a very important part of work style, it’s the difference between slouchy and polished.  Fortunately, my tailor is conveniently located directly across the street from my office!

I hope you all enjoyed my first Work Style Wednesday post and don’t forget to take advantage of the work style inspiration provided by Nathalie of Earnestyle and every other fashion blogger babe that joined our Work Style Wednesday Fashion Blogger Link up!

Señorita Flores

I have an admission to make…. I did an awful job at packing for my recent past trip to Los Angeles! Aside from the outfits, accessories and essentials for the actual FABB conference, I neglected to pack just about everything else!  I had no pajamas, no flip flops and only one extra T-shirt (the one you see below).  Considering the desperate and deficient circumstances in which the outfit below came to be, I had no intention of photographing this outfit.  However, after the Lucky FABB Networking Brunch, my boyfriend and I decided to take a stroll around L.A. and head to the Farmers Market for a late lunch and we came across this gorgeous mural on the side wall of a gas station and I just couldn’t resist snapping a few pics!

Seersucker

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a productive Monday! Seersucker is one of my favorite spring/summer fabrics.

What is seersucker?  Seersucker is a breathable woven cotton fabric, traditionally striped or checkered, with alternate stripes crinkled in the weaving giving it a slightly wrinkled appearance making this fabric perfect for those hot spring and summer months.  The word “seersucker” originates from the Hindi words “kheer aur shakkar”, meaning “rice pudding and sugar” due to the resemblance between the smooth and rough stripes to the smooth surface of milk and bumpy texture of sugar.

That ladies and gentlemen is your Sun Fun Fashion Lesson of the day! Lol!

Have a great week everyone!

The Holy Grail

Happy Monday everyone, I hope you all had a fantastic weekend! With a wedding and very special surprise birthday party to attend, this past Saturday proved the perfect day to debut the dress I consider the “Holy Grail” of the Peter Pilotto x Target Collection. The Jacquard Dress in Red Iris Print was the single most coveted piece of the collection, and at 3:00 a.m. on February 9, 2014, when I placed this dress in my shopping cart on Net-A-Porter.com, it took every fiber of my being to stop myself from screaming excitedly up and down the halls of my apartment building like a lunatic!

Just a few short hours later, this beauty was being resold on e-Bay for up to three times its original price of $79.99. I’m not going to lie, had I failed to purchase it directly from Target or Net-A-Porter for its original price, I would have paid double and would not have regret it for a second.

From the eye popping colors; genius geo-floral print; rich textured fabric; playful, pleated, tulle enhanced skirt; and fabulous bodice top. This dress is the most exquisite item to come out of any Target designer collaboration to date!

I went for an ultra playful and colorful spring look by adding blue (faux) suede shoes from Shoedazzle, a light blue clutch from Ann Taylor Loft and minimal accessories.

I wish you all a productive and joyful week!

xoxo

Fun Femme Frock

And so my love affair with the Peter Pilotto x Target Collection continues, but can you blame me?  I mean, look at the use of print and color on this frock; and the low-high cut, ruffled bottom goes without saying!  This little frock is fun and feminine all wrapped up with a matching black/white patent leather belt into one fabulous frock! I opted for all black and white accessories this time around, but for future use of this frock, I look forward to altering the dynamic by replacing the belt with a solid colored belt and coordinating accessories.  Of course, you will see it here on Sun Fun Fashion!

Peter Pilotto for Target

Hey guys! I am finally getting around to posting a look featuring one of the many (ok, lots of many) pieces I purchased from the Peter Pilotto for Target Collection.  If you know me, or simply scroll through the pages of Sun Fun Fashion you will quickly realize that I am a sucker for prints, color and structured pieces and NO ONE and I really mean NO ONE does bold prints, color and structure quite like the two gentlemen behind Peter Pilotto.  This by far, has been my favorite designer/Target collaboration to date!

Aside from my infatuation with the colors and prints, the fabrics are not too shabby either.  The fabrics are appropriate for the price- plenty of polyester (but not the wrinkly and scratchy kind), nice cotton-blend jersey and a few pieces made with a textured jacquard effect material such as the highly coveted Jacquard Iris Print Dress.  The sizing I found to run a bit large with the exception of the Jacquard Iris Print Dress, which despite sizing up to a size 8 is still extremely snug in the chest area (and I don’t even have a chest area).  I ordered the Blue/White Color Block blazer in a Medium (my usual blazer size), but I really wish I would have ordered a Small.

Overall, with all merchandise priced within $14.99 – $79.99, I have to say I am very pleased with this collaboration!  I consider my 4:00 a.m. rousing on the date of the release to be well justified and advantageous as the majority of the collection sold out both at Target and Net-a-Porter within the first few hours of its release. image Red Floral/Check Print Skirt: Peter Pilotto for Target; Blue/White Print Blouse: Purchased from a random vendor at my usual beauty salon; Caged Heels: Nine West; Black/White Color Block Fold-Over Clutch: EXPRESS (gift); Black & White Bracelet: Kate Spade; 3D Printed Cobalt Diamond Ring: Orlando Fernandez (www.maison203.com) purchased at the Perez Art Museum Miami Gift Shop.   image_3image_5image_4image_7image_6image_8image_2image_1
