Gypsy Soul

It’s been quite some time since my last blog post, blame it on my gypsy soul.

If you follow me on Instagram then you’re probably well aware that I was recently wandering around Europe for 2 weeks and I can’t wait to (find the time to) share my travel diary with you all!

As for today, here’s a look I wore a few weeks back that fashionably portrays my gypsy soul.  I came across this hi-low maxi skirt on the clearance rack at Express and I simply could not resist its down to earth gypsy vibes. The hi-low trend is a merger between the mini skirt and maxi skirt and is the perfect way to show off your gams (and killer shoes) while still being comfortably covered. I love them for summer with heeled or flat sandals, but will easily transition into fall paired with booties or knee high boots.

What’s your take on the hi-low trend?

Work Style Wednesday: Spring Casual

Today’s look is a bit more casual than what you guys are used to seeing from me, but by all means, still very work appropriate.  Having to bear with a strict “no jeans” policy at work can have a girl scrambling to find a stylish alternative to the oh-so versatile blue jean on a Friday morning.  And since scrambling and fussy clothing are no way to start your Friday morning, the fashion gods created khakis!

Equally as comfy and versatile as jeans, you can pair your khakis with virtually any solid or printed top in your wardrobe. I wore my khakis with this perfectly floral top and accessorized with my favorite springtime handbag by Vince Camuto, andcurrent shoe obsession, my YSL Tribute’s; both of which you’ve seen before recently and will likely see a lot more of this spring!

What’s your casual style?

Work Style Wednesday: Muumuu(ish)

If I had to pick one dress to wear for the rest of my life, it would be this H&M Hi-Low A-Line dress right here. The only thing that disappoints me about this dress is that it was not manufactured in every single color and print known to man.

Sure, its shape could be compared to that of the Muumuu, but its fun and airy vibe is simply perfect for spring! Besides, don’t be so closed-minded, this muumuu er dress (and this one too) can bring sexy back real quick, simply by adding a chunky belt creating a more cinched, flirty look.  I paired my fun and flowy muumuu with my new obsessions, my Yves Saint Laurent Tribute T-Strap Sandals; a hard earned gift to myself for kicking ass at work.

Speaking of work!! It’s Work Style Wednesday and I can’t wait for my dose of work style inspiration!

Stop and Smell the Roses

One of my absolute favorite past times is wandering, aimlessly, strategically, locally or internationally.  There’s just so much to see and learn when you take a step back, stop and smell the roses.  My boyfriend Daniel and I have been doing a whole lot of wandering lately. While I snap away at pretty much anything in sight using my new camera (a Christmas gift from Daniel), Daniel is busy finding landmarks and hacking portals via Ingress– “an augmented reality massive multiplayer online role playing GPS-dependent game created by Niantic Labs, a startup within Google”.  Sounds like a major geek fest, but its actually a pretty cool game, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Last weekend we took the Metro Mover to its final destination at the School Board Station and wandered off into Wynwood to check out all the incredible murals left behind by artists from all around the world during this year’s Art Basel.  We came across this lovely rosette mural and I couldn’t help but use it as the backdrop for my OOTD.  Not only does it fit my all around feminine and colorful style, but how great did it match my look that day?!

If you have some leisure time go out and get lost in your own city.  Go for a long walk or bike ride, you’ll be amazed at how many new things you’ll discover when you’re not trapped inside a car.

Thank you for stopping by and I wish you all an adventurous and inspirational Sunday Funday!

On the Grid

Are you guys as excited about the long weekend as I am? Jumping right back into my routine after a sleepless, eco-adventure vacation has me running on fumes.  Nothing like a 4 day weekend to get me back on the grid and back on the grind!

Speaking of being on the grid, I am sure you guys have seen this grid print on my skirt everywhere this season! I love this black and white grid print because it is very versatile, you can literally wear it with just about any color.  I also love this print because it is an chic and modern take on plaid.  Everyone is mad for plaid this season, but I for one loathe plaid.  That’s right, I said it, I loathe plaid.  I just can’t. I don’t hate it on other people, but I personally refuse to wear it.  Therefore, grid print is an acceptable substitute in my book.

I wish you all a wonderful long weekend and a blessed Thanksgiving!

My Handbag Essentials

Rue La La: My Handbag Essentials

When it comes to clothing I’m sure you’ve noticed I’m not big on splurging. Clothing is so unfaithful. One season it’s in, another it’s “so last season”. One week it fits like a glove, the next week it fits like a sausage casing.  I usually prefer to indulge in handbags. They are eternally more forgiving of seasonal trend shifts and sudden, unexplained weight gains. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m an equal opportunity handbag collector.

Out of all the components that make up a fabulous outfit, I believe the handbag holds the most importance. A handbag is more than just the perfect accessory, to me, a handbag is my home away from home; a fabulous receptacle of a woman’s essential belongings for the day ahead. I have been eager to share a “What’s in My Bag” post for quite some time now, so when Rue La La asked me what my daily handbag essentials are, I simply could not resist sharing with you all here on Sun Fun Fashion!

Rue La La is an online shopping destination for the most desired brands at members-only prices and when it comes to handbags, Rue La La does not skimp on selection. With brands such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Mulberry and Michael Kors to name a few, Rue La La is the go-to site for designer/luxury handbags at discounted prices.

The peeps over at Rue La La know just how essential the right handbag is to a woman. I came across this handy Handbag Guide over on the Rue La La Blog which offers a wealth of information and tips such as choosing the right bag for every occasion, verifying the authenticity of luxury brand handbags and even a brief history of the handbag. Check it out! I’m sure you’ll learn something new!

Alright, let’s talk about my handbag essentials! Some women have the great fortune of leaving their abode with a clutch or cross-body carrying just the bare necessities. I am not one of those women. My needs are a bit more complex. I love my Kate Spade 2 Park Avenue Beau Bag because it is functional and fabulous! Walking to the metro station is part of my daily commute and I am constantly on the go. My daily adventures call for an assortment of 29 items which I like to break down as my survival kit and my beauty kit!

{Not So} Basic

My personal style can be defined as a mixture of adjectives, but BASIC is not likely one of them.  Not that there is anything wrong with basic.  On the contrary, while flipping through glossies I consistently drool over fuss free, crisp style, but for some reason when it comes to my personal style, I perpetually feel the need for a pop of color, a print, a statement piece, ANYTHING to steer clear of basic.

I found this crisp and modern, white shirt-dress at Marshalls and thought it would be fun to go out of my comfort zone and shock everyone by going BASIC.  I originally intended on black, single ankle strap sandals, minimal accessories and a simple black clutch.  Well, as you can see I did manage to keep the accessories and clutch down to a minimum, but when it came time for the shoes…. I gave into the madness! I went for these sky-high, red leopard print pumps which took my originally intended “basic look” to well, {Not So} Basic.

Am I afraid of basic? No. I couldn’t be!  Am I “Basically Challenged”?  Quite possibly.  Hmmm, sounds like a challenge! My mission: To wear this same dress in the simplest, most uncomplicated (yet stylish) fashion. Stay tuned for Sun Fun Fashion’s BASIC Style Challenge.

While we are on the subject of BASIC, if you have never heard of LOHANTHONY and his announcement , you can thank me in comments below for introducing him.  I find this kid sooooo hilarious! Check him out!

** Disclaimer** The views and opinions expressed in the Lohanthony video above had absolutely no influence on my fear of basic.

Pattern Play

Don’t you just love when you’re perusing the racks and suddenly you spot something wonderful! Last week on a lunchtime trip to Marshalls I spotted this adorable Collective Concepts dress and was immediately smitten! I love everything about this dress! For starters, the burnt orange, navy and light pink leopard print is so different and refreshing! The flared/pleated skirt is feminine and playful, while the contrasting color patches at the waist add a slimming effect! Need I say more? Fashionistas, this is what I like to call a #FABFOUND winner!

Since we all know I love a little “Pattern Play” I decided to throw on my seersucker striped blazer.  When playing with colorful patterns always remember that it is very important to keep within similar color families down to your shoes and accessories. Notice how although the blue/ivory stripes on the blazer play well with the navy/ivory leopard rosettes on the dress; it is the similar colored navy shoes and handbag that act as the perfect cohesive for these two converse patterns (stripes and spots).

All in all, I love the way this whole look came together.  What do you think?

Good Deeds

What would you do if you saw a woman walking down the street with a ripped dress and her ass hanging out? Okay, forget the part where this is Miami and butt cheek exposure is the norm. I’m talking about a woman, clearly dressed for work, wearing a blazer and a dress with a tear from her lower back to her mid thigh.  Would you stop her and advise her of the situation?

Last week Thursday as I made my way to work, I stepped out of the car, entered my office building, walked by 2 different lobbies and rode 2 different elevators (full of people) all the while fully exposing my derriere.  Do you think a single person had the courtesy of telling me “Excuse me miss, your ass is completely exposed”….? NOPE!  Not a soul.  My hopes were that no one actually noticed, but considering the enormous size of the tear (and my ass), I find it very hard to believe.

I can’t tell you how many times I have saved or relieved complete strangers of embarrassing situations.  Booger in nose, skirt tucked into panties, open zippers, etc. Although it appears Karma has failed to keep tabs of my past good deeds, I plan to continue my selfless acts of kindness in hopes that one day the good deeds will be reciprocated.

The moral of the story is: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”  Do good deeds people!  If you see a sister walking down the street with a hole the size of Texas on her dress/skirt/pants, let a sister know!

After much debate about whether or not I should post a picture of the not-so-little mishap, I decided that my personal style blog is no place to publicly display my goods, at least not my God given ones anyway. But just know that while taking the pics below I enjoyed an extra nice breeze.

Color Happy

What can I say … I’m Color Happy!! I perpetually feel the need to throw in a pop of color. Not that I can’t see myself in a head-to-toe monochromatic look, I’m just saying it rarely happens. Be it by way of jewelry, handbag, shoes or accessories there is always room for color in my world! In today’s featured look I went for all of the above, but balanced things out a bit with a classic black pencil skirt and satchel.  What do you think?

I wish you all a colorful and happy day!  Thank you for stopping by!
