How to Make Your Lover “Blush” This Valentines Day

Oh, February….The month of LOVE! If you’ve stopped by the blog lately and/or follow me on IG, you’ve probably noticed that my love affair with the color “Blush” is hot and heavy! For as long as I can remember, I have always been an admirer of virtually any shade of pink; and although I still find flamingo pink and hot pink simply irresistible, “Blush” seems a more appropriate approach for the maturer pink lover in me.  My favorite way to describe the color “Blush” is: “Pink with a hint of vintage”. And you all know I love just about anything that can be classified under vintage!

Speaking of LOVE, Valentines Day is right around the corner and this year, instead of going for the cliche “LRD” (Little Red Dress), how about going for an “LBD”? Now every fashionista knows that “LBD” is actually the acronym for “Little Black Dress”, but for the sake of this post “LBD” will be defined as “Little Blush Dress”!

Regardless of whether you go for an “LBD” or an “LRD” fishnet stockings are a sure fire way of making your honey “blush” (pun totally intended) this Valentines Day.  And if you can get your hands on a fishnet or lace bodystocking to wear under your “LBD” or “LRD”, well, just be sure to have rag ready to wipe the drool off your Valentines face.

I’ll be sharing more Valentines Day inspired looks throughout the next two weeks, so stay tuned!

Work Style Wednesday: Furry Monotones

The cold air has finally made its way down to sunny Miami and I couldn’t be more excited! And neither could my most recent “furry” impulse purchase! No, I didn’t get another cat!

I’ve had this perfect, furry little vest sitting pretty in my closet since Black Friday and it may, or may not have made love to one of the many leopard printed garments in my closet, giving birth to this furry little number here; making that two furry impulse purchases, but who’s keeping count, right?

Fur and all things furry, are currently stirring quite a “fury” in the fashion world right now and despite suffering from a shortage of cold weather, I simply can’t resist the opportunity to give into this soft and fuzzy trend!

In addition to all things soft and furry I am also currently tickled by the color “Blush” so I opted for soft blush skinny pants and blush details and accessories to marry the soft neutrals in the furry vest.  The result is a sweet, soft monotone look, which I simply fell in love with.

As you know, its Work Style Wednesday so don’t forget to take advantage of the countless work style inspiration ideas below!

Work Style Wednesday: Striped Tee

“I have been shopping all my life and still have nothing to wear.” ~ Anonymous

It’s crazy, but its true.  Some days I wake up stare at my closet and firmly decide I have nothing to wear.  On those days I find relief and comfort in a trusty striped tee. Versatile in so many ways, a striped tee is an easy starting point to creating an effortlessly chic look. Being a lover of pattern play, I’ve come to find that when it comes to “playing well with other(s) (prints)”, stripes always win!

One very important thing to always keep in mind when mixing prints is to make sure your differing prints share similar color schemes.  Now that we’ve laid out the ground rules to mixing patterns, here are a few ideas on how to style a STRIPED TEE:

1.  Striped tee, boyfriend jeans, strappy heels and a scarf (solid or printed);

2.  Striped tee, black skinny pants, pumps and a blazer (solid or printed, if you dare);

3.  Striped tee, floral skirt, ankle booties and a solid color cardigan;

4.  Striped tee, colorful skirt, Converse and chambray button down.

Don’t forget to scroll your way down to today’s #WorkStyleWednesday feature below!

Work Style Wednesday: The Trouser

First of all let me just say that I am ecstatic to be a part of this fun and associative project alongside Nathalie of Earnestyle Blog!

As a part time blogger with a full time career outside of fashion, “work wear” pretty much governs the majority of my Monday – Friday style choices. I like to describe my personal work style as professional, yet playful.  While always keeping in mind my office dress code, I can’t ever resist adding a bit of color and flare to professional and structured pieces.

Today’s Work Style Wednesday look is the perfect example of how to add a little feminine flare to a work wear staple, the trouser.  Man or woman, the trouser is at the top of every working professional’s list of “must haves”.  And because trousers are so unisex, what better way of claiming a feminine stake on trousers than by adding a little bit (or a lot) of sparkle!

I absolutely love the fit of these Michael Kors Jogger Trousers, even though after breaking them in a bit I realized that they are a tad big on me.  Nothing a bit of tailoring can’t fix! Tailoring is a very important part of work style, it’s the difference between slouchy and polished.  Fortunately, my tailor is conveniently located directly across the street from my office!

I hope you all enjoyed my first Work Style Wednesday post and don’t forget to take advantage of the work style inspiration provided by Nathalie of Earnestyle and every other fashion blogger babe that joined our Work Style Wednesday Fashion Blogger Link up!

Stop and Smell the Roses

One of my absolute favorite past times is wandering, aimlessly, strategically, locally or internationally.  There’s just so much to see and learn when you take a step back, stop and smell the roses.  My boyfriend Daniel and I have been doing a whole lot of wandering lately. While I snap away at pretty much anything in sight using my new camera (a Christmas gift from Daniel), Daniel is busy finding landmarks and hacking portals via Ingress– “an augmented reality massive multiplayer online role playing GPS-dependent game created by Niantic Labs, a startup within Google”.  Sounds like a major geek fest, but its actually a pretty cool game, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Last weekend we took the Metro Mover to its final destination at the School Board Station and wandered off into Wynwood to check out all the incredible murals left behind by artists from all around the world during this year’s Art Basel.  We came across this lovely rosette mural and I couldn’t help but use it as the backdrop for my OOTD.  Not only does it fit my all around feminine and colorful style, but how great did it match my look that day?!

If you have some leisure time go out and get lost in your own city.  Go for a long walk or bike ride, you’ll be amazed at how many new things you’ll discover when you’re not trapped inside a car.

Thank you for stopping by and I wish you all an adventurous and inspirational Sunday Funday!

Oxblood

Oxblood may very well be the “It” color for fall/winter.  Oxblood is a deep red wine color somewhere between Bordeaux and Burgundy and this season whether it’s clothing, handbags, shoes, lips or nails, its everywhere! I had been on the hunt for the perfect Oxblood handbag and much to no surprise the hunt ended at Marshalls! As soon as I laid eyes on this perfect oxblood satchel (with optional removable cross body strap) I knew it had to be mine! It’s quickly become my favorite handbag this season, so don’t judge me if you see me wearing it with EVERYTHING!

The perfect oxblood handbag wouldn’t be complete without the perfect oxblood booties! I nabbed these fierce faux snakeskin booties from Express during their recent 50% OFF everything sale and it appears many other fashionistas had the same idea because they are currently sold out. Sorry guys!  But as usual, below are a few similar options for you to pull off the look as well.

What’s your favorite color for fall this year?

Black Widow Baby

Now here’s a look featuring a dress so nice, I bought it twice!  You’ve seen this dress before in white here and I felt so stylish and comfy in it that I could not resist purchasing it in black as well.  I love the modern cut, loose fit and POCKETS!! I love any dress or skirt with pockets!  I added my touch of edge by accessorizing with this incredible statement necklace and black lace/studded booties!

I gotta admit, I felt kinda bad ass in this outfit! Stylish and dangerous, a lethal combination.

What makes you feel confident and bad ass?

{Not So} Basic

My personal style can be defined as a mixture of adjectives, but BASIC is not likely one of them.  Not that there is anything wrong with basic.  On the contrary, while flipping through glossies I consistently drool over fuss free, crisp style, but for some reason when it comes to my personal style, I perpetually feel the need for a pop of color, a print, a statement piece, ANYTHING to steer clear of basic.

I found this crisp and modern, white shirt-dress at Marshalls and thought it would be fun to go out of my comfort zone and shock everyone by going BASIC.  I originally intended on black, single ankle strap sandals, minimal accessories and a simple black clutch.  Well, as you can see I did manage to keep the accessories and clutch down to a minimum, but when it came time for the shoes…. I gave into the madness! I went for these sky-high, red leopard print pumps which took my originally intended “basic look” to well, {Not So} Basic.

Am I afraid of basic? No. I couldn’t be!  Am I “Basically Challenged”?  Quite possibly.  Hmmm, sounds like a challenge! My mission: To wear this same dress in the simplest, most uncomplicated (yet stylish) fashion. Stay tuned for Sun Fun Fashion’s BASIC Style Challenge.

While we are on the subject of BASIC, if you have never heard of LOHANTHONY and his announcement , you can thank me in comments below for introducing him.  I find this kid sooooo hilarious! Check him out!

** Disclaimer** The views and opinions expressed in the Lohanthony video above had absolutely no influence on my fear of basic.

Sleeveless Trench

One of my favorite additions to my Fall wardrobe has been this sleeveless trench you see here. Not only is a sleeveless trench a great way of adding light layers and structure to any look, but it’s also very much in with the oh-so popular “menswear inspired” trend this season.  As you may have predicted, I found this little gem at Marshalls and immediately fell in love with the numerous possibilities of styling it!  I stuck to basics this time around with oxblood skinnies, a white tee and chunky gladiators, but I look forward to wearing it with contrasting, more feminine pieces very soon!
