Weekend Bumpin’

While I still haven’t entirely renounced my beloved collection of stilettos, these days in my fifth month of pregnancy when my balance and equilibrium are a bit off (a common side effect of adjusting to a growing mid-section) you will most likely catch me reaching for midi-heels, kitten heels or chunky block heels during the work week.  But on weekends, sneakers are my saving grace!

Now, opting for sneakers doesn’t mean you’re confined to athletic wear or T-shirts and jeans (not that there is anything wrong with that). The feminine/masculine mishmash of sneakers with dresses/skirts has been a hot trend on the runways for quite some time and according to Glamour Magazine, sneakers are once again one of the hottest shoe trends for Spring 2016!

I personally love J.Crew’s selection of sneakers perfect for combining with dresses and skirts. The key to pulling off sneakers with dresses and skirts is PROPORTION. Never wear high tops with a knee length skirt.  Such combination will visually cut off your legs making you look short and stout– something to avoid at all costs, especially while baby bumpin’. Sneakers that are cut below the ankle such as Keds, Converse or the New Balance’s you see me wearing below will elongate your legs, making the proportion of your comfy yet stylish  outfit look much better!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend so far and thanks for stopping by Sun Fun Fashion!

xoxo,

Martha and Baby G

The Struggle

I think any woman who currently is, or has ever been pregnant would agree that the first trimester of pregnancy can best be described as “The Struggle”.  The struggle to come to terms with the enormous change your life is about to undergo; the struggle to not worry yourself sick about the delicate life you carry inside; the struggle to not eat everything in sight, together with the struggle to keep it all down; the struggle to stay awake after lunch and the struggle to get dressed every morning, just to name a few.

During the second and third month of pregnancy the struggle to fit into your pre-pregnancy pants gets real!  Not ready to give into maternity pants just yet, you seek solace in using the good ole’ hair tie trickbelly band and a heavy rotation of leggings.  By month four you’re sick of struggling with hair ties and your leggings are pretty much worn out and begging to be retired! Enter maternity pants!

I recently gave into my need for comfort and style and purchased these Twill Skinny Leg Maternity Pants by MOTHERHOOD Maternity in both khaki and navy and my bump couldn’t be happier!  Not only is the twill material comfortable, but its a considerably chic upgrade from cotton leggings. I also love the versatile ankle length which can be worn with heels on days I’m feeling invincible, or flats on days when “the struggle is real”.

I am so happy to be back here on Sun Fun Fashion and I really hope you all will follow along and enjoy this life and wardrobe altering journey through maternity with me!  Thanks for stopping by!

xoxo,

Martha

Gypsy Soul

It’s been quite some time since my last blog post, blame it on my gypsy soul.

If you follow me on Instagram then you’re probably well aware that I was recently wandering around Europe for 2 weeks and I can’t wait to (find the time to) share my travel diary with you all!

As for today, here’s a look I wore a few weeks back that fashionably portrays my gypsy soul.  I came across this hi-low maxi skirt on the clearance rack at Express and I simply could not resist its down to earth gypsy vibes. The hi-low trend is a merger between the mini skirt and maxi skirt and is the perfect way to show off your gams (and killer shoes) while still being comfortably covered. I love them for summer with heeled or flat sandals, but will easily transition into fall paired with booties or knee high boots.

What’s your take on the hi-low trend?

SFF + Concrete Runway

After a long day at work, nothing brightens my day quite like coming home to a care package from one of my favorite online boutiques! Especially when that online boutique just so happens to be Concrete Runway. With the excitement of 5 year old on Christmas morning, I mangled my way into the package to find this gorgeous flared, burgundy skirt!

While burgundy is one of my favorite colors, (maybe because it reminds me of wine) it can prove to be a tricky color to style for spring or summer. For fall, burgundy pairs beautifully with rich jewel tones and/or leopard print, but by no means is burgundy reserved for the fall months.

As you can see, I found that blush and burgundy look absolutely beautiful together.  Once I had that figured out, it was all about finding a fun summer print that blended in with the color palette and VOILA! I’m rocking burgundy for summer!

Thank you Concrete Runway for the loving care package, fun style challenge; and for never letting me down when it comes to shopping for quality, fashion-forward work wear at affordable prices!

Soooo Miami

If you follow me on Instagram you may have caught on to the little love affair I’ve been having with flamingos!

There’s a certain nostalgia about flamingos that just tickles me pink! Flamingos bring back childhood memories of family trips to the Miami Metro Zoo, where upon entry patrons were greeted by flushing flocks of flamingos! I remember my fascination with the different shades of pinks and corals radiating from their feathers, as well as my admiration of their flirty, one legged stance.

I also love that flamingos are just soooooo Miami! I dare you to find a postcard from Miami that doesn’t have a flamingo somewhere on it. So whether it be thoughts of my childhood or thoughts of my hometown, flamingos have the power to make me feel some type of way.  So why not wear them emblazoned on my blouse, T-shirt, handbag and necklace?

In Full Bloom

You know that moment when you spot something on the rack that you just can’t wait to add to your closet?  Well, that was the case the moment I laid eyes on this vibrant floral skirt from Marshalls. Before I knew it, my mind began blooming with style possibilities and before I could even make it to the register I had the whole look you see below all laid out (in my mind)!

Don’t you just love it when that happens?

Work Style Wednesday: Spring Casual

Today’s look is a bit more casual than what you guys are used to seeing from me, but by all means, still very work appropriate.  Having to bear with a strict “no jeans” policy at work can have a girl scrambling to find a stylish alternative to the oh-so versatile blue jean on a Friday morning.  And since scrambling and fussy clothing are no way to start your Friday morning, the fashion gods created khakis!

Equally as comfy and versatile as jeans, you can pair your khakis with virtually any solid or printed top in your wardrobe. I wore my khakis with this perfectly floral top and accessorized with my favorite springtime handbag by Vince Camuto, andcurrent shoe obsession, my YSL Tribute’s; both of which you’ve seen before recently and will likely see a lot more of this spring!

What’s your casual style?

Work Style Wednesday

Hey guys! It’s that wonderful time of the year again! No not spring, although I am pretty excited about spring (fashion) as well.  It’s that time of the year when you get to hear me bitch and moan about how much weight I’ve gained, how none of my clothes fits me and how I plan on doing this and that in order to get back to my preferred weight.

Well, how about I spare you those boring details and instead I talk to you about how despite my augmented physique I managed to pull off this figure hugging little number by Calvin Klein via Marshalls.  The truth is, sudden weight gains happen to the best of us (or is it the worst?).  The key is knowing how to dress for your body type and using the powers of dissimulation to conceal problem areas.

Aside from having an interior lining and being made of a thick, quality material (two important factors when concerned about dimples or skin imperfections), this feminine number is ruched at one side of the waist, creating a slimming effect.  When experiencing tummy troubles try opting for dresses with ruched or twisted waists. You’ll be surprised at what a little well-placed gathering will do for your waistline!
