Off the Shoulder

Happy Friday Dolls! Now I know I am a little late to the game in writing about the widely popular “Off the Shoulder” trend, but this trend isn’t going anywhere, any time soon.  In Miami, showing a little skin is always in and for everyone else preparing for the Fall months, bare shoulders are transitioning into Fall by way of off the shoulder sweaters and cold shoulder turtlenecks and long sleeved blouses.

I purchased this dress from Boohoo.com and to be frank I was somewhat reluctant to order from this site because the prices seemed a bit “too good to be true”.  However, despite my hesitations I took a leap of faith and ordered this dress in two colors and another OTS (Off the Shoulder) top.  Overall, I must say I was fairly pleased with the quality of the items I ordered. I would compare the quality of the clothing to that of Forever 21.  When it comes to trendy pieces I try not to break the bank and that is what sites like Boohoo are ideal for, trendy pieces at very low prices. I originally had my heart set on this MLM Label Maison Dress, but the price tag gave me heart palpitations and so I settled for the very similar version you see me wearing here for a fraction of the price!

In the Trenches

Hi guys! Here’s a look I wore a few weeks ago, but didn’t get around to posting sooner as I’ve been feeling a bit “In the Trenches”.  I’m currently getting over the second upper respiratory infection I’ve managed to acquire throughout this pregnancy and boy has it taken its toll on me!  Congestion has actually been a constant throughout my pregnancy  and apparently its a constant for many women due to the increased blood flow to all mucous membranes, caused by the high levels of estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy.

Miami’s recent temperamental weather hasn’t been much help either, but at least its presented me the chance to wear one of my favorite statement pieces, this maxi sleeveless trench. You’ve seen me wear it on the blog before here, but I’ve worn it numerous times with everything from short skirts and high-waisted shorts to midi-skirts and jeans.  What makes this sleeveless trench a major statement piece is the dramatic length which can turn even the simplest cotton bodycon dress into a head turning ensemble.  Because being pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t turn heads in admiration!

Hope you guys have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

xoxo,

Martha

Weekend Bumpin’

While I still haven’t entirely renounced my beloved collection of stilettos, these days in my fifth month of pregnancy when my balance and equilibrium are a bit off (a common side effect of adjusting to a growing mid-section) you will most likely catch me reaching for midi-heels, kitten heels or chunky block heels during the work week.  But on weekends, sneakers are my saving grace!

Now, opting for sneakers doesn’t mean you’re confined to athletic wear or T-shirts and jeans (not that there is anything wrong with that). The feminine/masculine mishmash of sneakers with dresses/skirts has been a hot trend on the runways for quite some time and according to Glamour Magazine, sneakers are once again one of the hottest shoe trends for Spring 2016!

I personally love J.Crew’s selection of sneakers perfect for combining with dresses and skirts. The key to pulling off sneakers with dresses and skirts is PROPORTION. Never wear high tops with a knee length skirt.  Such combination will visually cut off your legs making you look short and stout– something to avoid at all costs, especially while baby bumpin’. Sneakers that are cut below the ankle such as Keds, Converse or the New Balance’s you see me wearing below will elongate your legs, making the proportion of your comfy yet stylish  outfit look much better!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend so far and thanks for stopping by Sun Fun Fashion!

xoxo,

Martha and Baby G

Stars and Stripes

Happy Birthday America!! I feel so blessed to live in a country that promotes liberty and the pursuit of happiness to all. A country of citizens always willing to shed blood and tears in honor of their freedoms.  A country in which even an immigrant, such as myself, may practice their freedom of speech and host a blog in which they may express and opine on any subject they very damn well please!

Now, as you can see, I  am feeling uber patriotic today, but let me remind myself that the subject I very damn well please to write about is fashion!  So let’s talk about that….

The most apropos word to describe my excitement when Farfetch  asked me to share my “Stars and Stripes” themed look with them was FIREWORKS!!

Farfetch is a fashion hub made up of over 300 of the worlds best curated boutiques everywhere from Paris, New York and Milan to Bucharest, Riyadh and Seattle AND my #1 favorite site to shop all things designer luxury fashion!  One of my favorite aspects of the Farfetch site is that in addition to carrying goods from luxury and influential designers we all know and love, it also carries items by emerging and experimental labels in its LAB section.  I love learning about new designers and what inspires them.

Be it for purchases or just plain inspiration, I find myself browsing Farfetch’s fabulous worldwide boutiques at least once a week.  One of my favorite styling exercises is curating my own looks based on items from the site.  It makes me feel like a jet setting fashionista shopping all around the world! Today in the spirit of the Fourth of July holiday, I have styled a “Stars and Stripes” themed look to share with you all!

Check it out below and of course, my very own “Stars and Stripes” #OOTD!

Animal (Print) Lover

As you may have perceived, I have always been a big fan of animal prints! I am guilty of possessing countless articles of clothing fully emblazoned with cheetah spots, leopard rosettes, zebra stripes and snake skin prints.  Now don’t go calling PETA on me! It’s faux! But the modern day animal print goes beyond “faux”. The latest trend in animal print is a bit more efficient, more animal friendly, if you will.

The animal prints I am currently loving are those that embrace the full animal, such as the Cardinal and Finch bird print blouse you see below.  More and more I am finding (and loving) animal prints made up of full bodied leopards, horses, peacocks, whales, etc. You’ve seen me in “full bodied animal” print before here and here and I am currently obsessed with anything with lobsters and flamingos on them, so get ready for that!

I paired this adorable bird print blouse with this amazing royal blue, asymmetrical skirt from one of my favorite online and pop-up boutiques, CONCRETE RUNWAY! I discovered Concrete Runway on Instagram and was amazed at the stellar quality of their inventory considering their very affordable pricing.  You’ve seen me wearing Concrete Runway pieces before here and here and for the next 25 days receive 25% off your Concrete Runway purchase by using coupon code: sunfunfashion25 at checkout!

Love her!

No Way Crochet!

For those of you who like to play by the rules, have fun abolishing all your white threads from your wardrobe after the passing of Labor Day.  Will I be retiring my whites due to some antiquated fashion faux pas? No Way Crochet!

With all due respect, “I’m from Miami, Bitch!” I wear white, linen, crochet and maxi dresses when and where I want, no matter what (non-existent) season of the year we happen to be in.  That’s why despite the impending Labor Day holiday, I could not resist purchasing this gorgeous white, crochet maxi dress from Forever 21. This dress is perfect for a summer daytime date or brunch, but can also be worn in the chillier months (if they ever come to Miami) with a leather jacket or vest and closed toe booties! It’s all about repurposing people!

I hope you all are having an incredible weekend so far and please, don’t spend too much time boxing up your white threads, seriously!  Have you never heard of “winter whites”?

Weekend Gladiator

I promise I did everything in my power NOT to give into the “knee high gladiator” trend and well, I FAILED.  Miserably! See here’s what happened….

I do 95% of all my shopping online.  The other 5% happens when I am forced to physically step foot into a mall to either exchange or return something.  Well, about a week ago I stepped foot inside of Macy’s Dadeland to exchange an item when there they were….. standing tall and mighty a top the always tempting Vince Camuto display.

You see, in a magazine or online, these knee high gladiators can be more easily overlooked. I mean they don’t LOOK very comfortable or versatile, do they? However, once you see them in person they are simply irresistible! I simply could not resist trying them on, and as I walked around Macy’s shoe department for a feel, I quickly realized these fierce, flat gladiators were the most comfortable straps of leather I’ve had on my feet, EVER! I could seriously walk the entire Roman Trail in these puppies (pun intended). *Note to self: Plan a trip to Rome pronto!

Well, you can all guess how this story ends… I purchased them! This time around I wore them with a belted, single shouldered dress to bring some fun and femininity to the mix!  With their high level of comfort and intense ferocity, these sandals will surely be my “Weekend Gladiators” for the summer!

Happy Weekend, Gladiators!  May your weekend’s be thrilling and prosperous!

Good Old Fashioned Love

Happy Hump Day Lovers!! Considering it’s Valentine’s Day- week, I hope you all have an “extra special” (wink, wink) Hump Day! Lol!

Today’s Valentine’s Day inspired look is dedicated to my love for one of a kind vintage finds! There’s nothing like the feeling of stepping into a vintage boutique; the smell, the stories, the possibilities… Ohhhhh! I get goosebumps just thinking about it! I scored this gorgeous, drop waist, pleated dress at Hubba Hubba Vintage Apparel in Burbank, California last summer. Burbank, California is home to all the major film production studios in the United States including, Warner Brothers, Disney, Universal, Paramount and Sony to name a few. As a result, Burbank is one of the absolute most amazing places to score vintage and thrift finds due to the large intake of items received from the studios upon completion of films and projects. Essentially, any item from a vintage or thrift shop in Burbank was more than likely used on a film set and/or probably worn by a major movie star, actor or extra. Pretty cool huh?

Although I don’t know exactly if and when this romantic, pleated dress was used on a film set, I imagine it being part of the wardrobe to a 1940- 1960 “Good Old Fashioned Love Story”! Something along the lines of “Casablanca” or “Thrill of a Romance” (two of my favorite “oldie, but goodie” films). In a more current film set, this dress would be a shoe in for the “Mad Men” wardrobe! Don’t you think?

What’s your favorite time period in fashion?
