Off the Shoulder

Happy Friday Dolls! Now I know I am a little late to the game in writing about the widely popular “Off the Shoulder” trend, but this trend isn’t going anywhere, any time soon.  In Miami, showing a little skin is always in and for everyone else preparing for the Fall months, bare shoulders are transitioning into Fall by way of off the shoulder sweaters and cold shoulder turtlenecks and long sleeved blouses.

I purchased this dress from Boohoo.com and to be frank I was somewhat reluctant to order from this site because the prices seemed a bit “too good to be true”.  However, despite my hesitations I took a leap of faith and ordered this dress in two colors and another OTS (Off the Shoulder) top.  Overall, I must say I was fairly pleased with the quality of the items I ordered. I would compare the quality of the clothing to that of Forever 21.  When it comes to trendy pieces I try not to break the bank and that is what sites like Boohoo are ideal for, trendy pieces at very low prices. I originally had my heart set on this MLM Label Maison Dress, but the price tag gave me heart palpitations and so I settled for the very similar version you see me wearing here for a fraction of the price!

Maternity Style Must Have

We all love to hate Kim Kardashian, but we gotta give her credit where credit is due, and while I give her kuddos for turning a shoddy sex tape into a multi-million dollar empire, that is not what I will be crediting her in today’s blog post. I will however, be crediting her for influencing my all-around “Maternity Style Must Have”….. The endlessly versatile Wolford Fatal Dress.

Although I don’t customarily wear skin tight dresses, I can’t think of a better time to embrace my womanly curves than during pregnancy.  Made of a luxe, super stretchy fabric, the Wolford Fatal Dress is the essential dress to accommodate a woman’s flourishing, baby making body; and as if finding the perfect LBD to sustain you through 9 months of pregnancy wasn’t valuable enough, you’ll be wowed to know that this amazing dress can be worn in at least 10 different ways!

We all know maternity clothing can be pricey, and although the Wolford Fatal Dress’ $215.00 price tag isn’t necessarily on the low end, when you consider the countless styling possibilities and potential for postpartum wear, it truly is a bang for one’s buck.

What’s your maternity style must have?

In the Trenches

Hi guys! Here’s a look I wore a few weeks ago, but didn’t get around to posting sooner as I’ve been feeling a bit “In the Trenches”.  I’m currently getting over the second upper respiratory infection I’ve managed to acquire throughout this pregnancy and boy has it taken its toll on me!  Congestion has actually been a constant throughout my pregnancy  and apparently its a constant for many women due to the increased blood flow to all mucous membranes, caused by the high levels of estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy.

Miami’s recent temperamental weather hasn’t been much help either, but at least its presented me the chance to wear one of my favorite statement pieces, this maxi sleeveless trench. You’ve seen me wear it on the blog before here, but I’ve worn it numerous times with everything from short skirts and high-waisted shorts to midi-skirts and jeans.  What makes this sleeveless trench a major statement piece is the dramatic length which can turn even the simplest cotton bodycon dress into a head turning ensemble.  Because being pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t turn heads in admiration!

Hope you guys have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

xoxo,

Martha

SFF + Concrete Runway

After a long day at work, nothing brightens my day quite like coming home to a care package from one of my favorite online boutiques! Especially when that online boutique just so happens to be Concrete Runway. With the excitement of 5 year old on Christmas morning, I mangled my way into the package to find this gorgeous flared, burgundy skirt!

While burgundy is one of my favorite colors, (maybe because it reminds me of wine) it can prove to be a tricky color to style for spring or summer. For fall, burgundy pairs beautifully with rich jewel tones and/or leopard print, but by no means is burgundy reserved for the fall months.

As you can see, I found that blush and burgundy look absolutely beautiful together.  Once I had that figured out, it was all about finding a fun summer print that blended in with the color palette and VOILA! I’m rocking burgundy for summer!

Thank you Concrete Runway for the loving care package, fun style challenge; and for never letting me down when it comes to shopping for quality, fashion-forward work wear at affordable prices!

Mixing Business with Pleasure

If you’ve stopped by recently, you may have noticed that tropical prints are currently having a moment here on Sun Fun Fashion.  From tropical flowers and flamingos, to this gorgeous palm print you see below, this summer I’m gravitating towards prints a bit more “groundbreaking” than just florals.

Although the length and shape of this skirt make it adequately work appropriate, the tropical print can make it appear more like resort wear than work wear.  So how do you wear fun tropical prints to work while still showing everyone you mean business?  Well, all you have to do is mix a little bit of business with pleasure.

Pairing a tropical print with a more subdued work wardrobe staple, such as a solid blazer or cape balances out the bold print, making it work-ready. Another tip when wearing tropical prints to work (or anywhere, really) is to keep your accessories simple and to a minimum. You do not want to look like a tropical Christmas tree.

So don’t limit the use of your tropical printed garbs to poolside lounging and leisure.  When it comes to making the most of this fun and bold summer trend, mixing a little bit of business with pleasure can prove to be a recipe for fashion success!

Freakin’ Weekend

Who’s ready for the weekend? I know I am! Here’s a look I wore last weekend to the Brew at the Zoo Event held by the Miami New Times. While we are on the subject of the Brew at the Zoo, let me give it to you straight. This event is “tremenda mierda” (a tremendous shit) for those of you who do not speak Spanish. Now I don’t normally bad mouth brands, restaurants or events, as I am a firm believer that if you don’t have anything nice to say, you should STFU, but I feel obliged to relieve any future prospective attendees of the FOMO.

First of all, the name of the event is misleading and deceptive. The event should more appropriately be titled “Brew At The Parking Lot of the Zoo”. Now, I realize the liability of having thousands of potentially drunk individuals running a muck around the zoo, but the parking lot?? Come on. I would have been happy with the mere sight of a flamingo, but the only animals I saw that evening were mosquitoes.

Second, there’s the lines. Standing in 20 different (10-15 minute) lines for 2 oz. beer samples is ludicrous. But, what’s worse is that by the time we got to the front of our second line of the night (at approximately 9pm) the brewery had already ran out of several of their beer selections. This proved to be the case for the third, fourth and fifth brewery we attempted to sample as well. Talk about poor planning.

Third and last, the event was supposed to run from 8-11 pm. By the time we left the event at 10:30 pm the majority of the breweries had packed up and left. This was more than likely due to the shortage of beer that ensued on or about 9pm.

Although “Brew At The Parking Lot of the Zoo” proved to be a complete waste of $40.00 p/p, there were two upsides to the night: the company (my friends rock) and my outfit!

The gauze like material of this summer LBD is light and airy- perfect for a night of drinking beer in a parking lot! I also love the crochet detail at the chest and bottom hem of the dress! I wore my super comfy gladiator sandals and color block, perforated bucket bag from Shoedazzle!  Now, although this dress sold out at Forever 21 in a matter of minutes, I’ve linked a few similar options for you to shop below!

As for this weekend, I’ll stick to sipping champagne somewhere near the beach! What are your plans?

Blush, Grey and Leopard

I simply cannot get enough of “Blush” these days and one of my favorite ways to pair this soft, neutral hue is by pairing it with my all-time favorite neutral, LEOPARD!  Yes, leopard is a neutral and if we can’t see eye to eye on that, then we may need to reevaluate this whole relationship.  :)

This A/X leopard print skirt pairs beautifully with shades of blush due to its perfect palette of leopard and grey- which happens to be my second favorite neutral to pair blush with.  Any shade of camel, tan or nude would come in third! I glammed up the look by adding gold details from neck to toe!

What do you think?

How to Make Your Lover “Blush” This Valentines Day

Oh, February….The month of LOVE! If you’ve stopped by the blog lately and/or follow me on IG, you’ve probably noticed that my love affair with the color “Blush” is hot and heavy! For as long as I can remember, I have always been an admirer of virtually any shade of pink; and although I still find flamingo pink and hot pink simply irresistible, “Blush” seems a more appropriate approach for the maturer pink lover in me.  My favorite way to describe the color “Blush” is: “Pink with a hint of vintage”. And you all know I love just about anything that can be classified under vintage!

Speaking of LOVE, Valentines Day is right around the corner and this year, instead of going for the cliche “LRD” (Little Red Dress), how about going for an “LBD”? Now every fashionista knows that “LBD” is actually the acronym for “Little Black Dress”, but for the sake of this post “LBD” will be defined as “Little Blush Dress”!

Regardless of whether you go for an “LBD” or an “LRD” fishnet stockings are a sure fire way of making your honey “blush” (pun totally intended) this Valentines Day.  And if you can get your hands on a fishnet or lace bodystocking to wear under your “LBD” or “LRD”, well, just be sure to have rag ready to wipe the drool off your Valentines face.

I’ll be sharing more Valentines Day inspired looks throughout the next two weeks, so stay tuned!

Animal (Print) Lover

As you may have perceived, I have always been a big fan of animal prints! I am guilty of possessing countless articles of clothing fully emblazoned with cheetah spots, leopard rosettes, zebra stripes and snake skin prints.  Now don’t go calling PETA on me! It’s faux! But the modern day animal print goes beyond “faux”. The latest trend in animal print is a bit more efficient, more animal friendly, if you will.

The animal prints I am currently loving are those that embrace the full animal, such as the Cardinal and Finch bird print blouse you see below.  More and more I am finding (and loving) animal prints made up of full bodied leopards, horses, peacocks, whales, etc. You’ve seen me in “full bodied animal” print before here and here and I am currently obsessed with anything with lobsters and flamingos on them, so get ready for that!

I paired this adorable bird print blouse with this amazing royal blue, asymmetrical skirt from one of my favorite online and pop-up boutiques, CONCRETE RUNWAY! I discovered Concrete Runway on Instagram and was amazed at the stellar quality of their inventory considering their very affordable pricing.  You’ve seen me wearing Concrete Runway pieces before here and here and for the next 25 days receive 25% off your Concrete Runway purchase by using coupon code: sunfunfashion25 at checkout!
