Art Basel 2014: Spectrum Art Show

I wouldn’t go as far as saying “I Baseled” this year, but I did manage to score VIP passes to the Spectrum Miami Art Exhibit courtesy of Coastaberre, a local trunk show, shopping party and pop- up boutique I met at October’s Fashion Happy Hour! My boyfriend and I had a great night at the Spectrum show and later stopped at a few other galleries on our way to KUSH where we enjoyed dinner and drinks!

One of my favorite parts about Art Basel has always been picking my outfits for all the shows and events. Then again, picking out my outfit is my favorite part about pretty much everything. I wanted my Basel look to be modern, minimal and as usual, a bit edgy. I went with my favorite LBD of the moment (seen before here) and added this snake print jacket with cut out back detail. You know I can’t resist to pop some color into the mix, so I chose oxblood for my booties, lips and accessories!

October’s Fashion Happy Hour Event

You may recall me recently gushing all over Instagram about October’s Fashion Happy Hour Event. Fashion Happy Hour is a monthly event bringing together bloggers, artists, photographers, designers and fashion enthusiasts for a night of networking and fun!October’s Fashion Happy Hour Event was a special one because I had the chance to participate as one of the featured fashion bloggers alongside Nathalie of Earnestyle Blog, Daniela of Danirulis Blog and Nicole Tenhagen! As a featured blogger I was asked to style a look for the fashion show that would take place that evening, using pieces from the featured vendors.  As if perusing racks of clothing and accessories to create a look for the fashion show wasn’t enough fun, we were also treated to mini manicures, live music and a Halloween body paint fashion show! It was a great night with great company!

Thank you to Fashion Happy Hour for having me and everyone who came out that night. I would also like to thank my beautiful model Nathalie Pinzon from DAMA Modeling Academy, JADIS Boutique for providing the clothing used to style my model,  Ashlie Redmond Handbags for the beautiful red handbag used for the fashion show and a special thanks to my girlfriends Jackie and Cindy for coming out and supporting me!

Fashion Happy Hour

This past Sunday I attended my first ever Fashion Happy Hour event! Fashion Happy Hour is a monthly event  that brings together bloggers, artists, photographers, designers and fashion enthusiasts for a chance to shop, network and socialize!  The venue varies from month to month and this month Fashion Happy Hour took place at none other than the very hip Catalina Hotel in Miami Beach!

The pool, which aptly accommodated a runway was surrounded by pop-up shops care of local designers and vendors such as MV Trend Jewelry, Wild Orchid, TAudrey and Genuine Aura to name a few!  There was live music, libations provided by Voli Vodka as well as ONLI flavored sparkling water, my new favorite non-alcoholic beverage!  I tried the Black Tea Tangerine Ginger flavor and was instantly hooked!  Try it out, its light and refreshing!

Now what would a fashion happy hour be without a fashion show, of course?  The gorgeous models of D.A.M.A. Modeling, Etiquette and Pageantry School cat walked down the runway featuring summer looks courtesy of KM Swimwear, ALX Couture and Nany’s Klozet Para Melao.

Sure shopping, sipping and dancing on a Sunday Funday afternoon are hard to eclipse, but my favorite part of Fashion Happy Hour was the people I met and the connections I made!  I had the pleasure of meeting the very sweet, smart and fashionable Nathalie of Earnestyle Blog whom I look forward to building a blogger buddy friendship with!  I was also thrilled to finally meet the uber successful and genuinely lovable Daniela Ramirez of Nany’s Kloset who was showcasing her very own collection for the Venezuelan brand Melao.

Overall, I had a great time at this month’s Fashion Happy Hour!  Although it was hotter than all hell, I felt appropriately draped in my Lyfebrand Flamingo muscle tee and Ivory Sheer Grid Skirt from Concrete Runway (both local Miami vendors)!

Although you will rarely catch me sporting an updo, I knew I wanted/needed to wear my hair up to avoid “Afro Puff-ation” so I turned to Pinterest and Youtube for tutorials on D.I.Y. updo’s.  What do you think?

If You Love Something Let It Go….

You’ve all heard the saying: “If you love something, let it go.  If it comes back to you, its yours forever.  If it doesn’t, then it was never meant to be.”  Well, although it is highly unlikely that “Unknown” was referring to a sequin embellished midi-skirt, it is this very quote that best describes my love affair with the skirt you see below.

Flashback about 15 years.

On a habitual Marshalls shopping trip with my mother, I instantaneously fell in love with the perfectly embellished, gold sequin beauty you see below. I convinced my mother that I absolutely NEEDED this skirt to further my existence and proceeded to list each and every upcoming event, Quinceañera, school dance and holiday I could potentially wear this skirt to; and I did.  I wore this skirt several times before deciding to do with it what I normally do with clothing I have convinced myself I will not wear again; give it to my mother to send to Nicaragua.

Well, my mother, being the borderline hoarder that she is, decided NOT to send this skirt to Nicaragua and kept it around for the day that (in my mother’s words) I “learned to appreciate choice pieces.”  About a month ago, more than 12 years later, my mother resurfaced this enchanting midi skirt and I fell in love all over again. With rich embellishments and midi-skirts being two of 2014’s hottest trends, I have to say this skirt’s feature on Sun Fun Fashion was simply meant to be.

This skirt really is enchanting.  I plan to keep it around quite possibly forever.  I consider it the first piece of my “Vintage Marshalls” Collection!

Thanks for your time! Have a wonderful day!

Snake and Radiant Orchid

I went to Marshalls last week in search of a gift for a baby shower and as I (tried) to walk past the ladies department I couldn’t help being drawn in by this gorgeous TAHARI snake print blouse.  Now it’s no secret that I am a sucker for animal prints,  I love the way leopard print makes me feel glamorous, zebra print makes me feel playful and snake print just adds that perfect touch of edge I like to throw into my usually ultra- feminine combinations.

For just the right balance of edge and femininity, I paired this blouse with a Radiant Orchid colored pencil skirt.  If you don’t already know, “Radiant Orchid” was named “Color of the Year” for 2014 by Pantone- the global authority on all things color related.  Described by Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute as “An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”  Need I say more?  If you don’t already own something in a Radiant Orchid hue, I suggest you go out and shop for it!

How are you wearing your Radiant Orchid?  Let me know in comments below or post a link to your Radiant Orchid look!  Thanks for stopping by!

Good Old Fashioned Love

Happy Hump Day Lovers!! Considering it’s Valentine’s Day- week, I hope you all have an “extra special” (wink, wink) Hump Day! Lol!

Today’s Valentine’s Day inspired look is dedicated to my love for one of a kind vintage finds! There’s nothing like the feeling of stepping into a vintage boutique; the smell, the stories, the possibilities… Ohhhhh! I get goosebumps just thinking about it! I scored this gorgeous, drop waist, pleated dress at Hubba Hubba Vintage Apparel in Burbank, California last summer. Burbank, California is home to all the major film production studios in the United States including, Warner Brothers, Disney, Universal, Paramount and Sony to name a few. As a result, Burbank is one of the absolute most amazing places to score vintage and thrift finds due to the large intake of items received from the studios upon completion of films and projects. Essentially, any item from a vintage or thrift shop in Burbank was more than likely used on a film set and/or probably worn by a major movie star, actor or extra. Pretty cool huh?

Although I don’t know exactly if and when this romantic, pleated dress was used on a film set, I imagine it being part of the wardrobe to a 1940- 1960 “Good Old Fashioned Love Story”! Something along the lines of “Casablanca” or “Thrill of a Romance” (two of my favorite “oldie, but goodie” films). In a more current film set, this dress would be a shoe in for the “Mad Men” wardrobe! Don’t you think?

What’s your favorite time period in fashion?

How to Lose 10 Pounds on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is this Friday and I just know the question on every woman’s mind is “What am I going to wear?” Well, you’re in luck because this week Sun Fun Fashion will be dedicated to bringing you a dash of inspiration to help you achieve your perfect Valentine’s Day look!

Interested in appearing 10 pounds thinner on Valentine’s Day?  Yeah, so am I, but since I can’t tell you how to ACTUALLY shed 10 pounds in 4 days, I will focus on teaching you how to create the illusion of a thinner, more defined waist, by using the powers of optical illusion.

I recently purchased (practically stole) this amazing black/white dress by Calvin Klein at Loehmann’s liquidation sale.  This dress is amazing and magical, yes magical and I will tell you why.  The strategic white/black color blocking on this dress captures human eyes and focuses their attention to the lighter color of the dress instead of the whole dress, making a magical difference in how people see your body.  See, our eyes are automatically attracted to light therefore the white center panel of this dress commands the eyes to concentrate on the center “hourglass” shape created by the contrasting black side panels.  For these reasons, this type of dress was aptly nicknamed the “Optical Illusion Dress” by press and photographers who first photographed starlets donning this type of magical dress.

So there you go.  If appearing thinner is one of your concerns when creating the perfect Valentine’s Day look or any day/night look, consider going for the very popular “Optical Illusion Dress.”

P.S. If any of you know how I can ACTUALLY shed 10 pounds from now till Friday, PLEASE (I beg you) e-mail me at!

Top Rated Trends for 2014

So, I’ve flipped through the “glossies” and browsed through endless 2013 New York Fashion Week (“NYFW”) runway shows to select and share with you all my top rated trends for 2014 fashion!

Every year, for a very special week in February, New York City becomes the mecca of all things FASHION! Designers from all over the world flock to NYC to showcase their collections for the upcoming fashion season and last year’s NYFW catwalks were heavy on 1) Metallics; 2) Fringe; 3) Athletic Inspired Wear; 4) Heavy Embellishments; and 5) Graphic and Geometric Prints.

NYFW 2014 is currently occurring at this very moment as we speak (I type) and I gotta tell you, having a seat (in any row) at any show and getting a tangible first look and foretelling the future of the upcoming year’s fashion on Sun Fun Fashion is my all-time biggest dream. Well, next to cage diving with Great White Sharks. True story. I’ll be there one day.  Both, in the cage (probably shitting my pants in a wet suit) and overly dressed on a cushioned folding chair at NYFW.  You gotta believe in your dreams, no one else is going to believe in them for you. Dreams come true, when you work your ass off, but they come true.

In the meantime, I’m practicing my due diligence and living NYFW 2014 via the “www” through live streamed runway shows and Instagram to report and exhibit via Sun Fun Fashion what’s hot for Fall 2014 and Spring 2015. Stay tuned!

Thanks for stopping by! xoxo

Creature of Comfort

I’ve become very fond of dressing comfortably in my old age (I just turned 30 last September, lol). Being from Miami, “sexy” is the year round required dress code, but I’ve come to realize that “sexy” is an attitude, not a garment nor body part. Don’t get me wrong, I am a firm believer that “if you got it, flaunt it” (in a classy and time appropriate manner, of course), but the days of wearing “painted on” jeans, midriff revealing tops and stilettos to run errands, go to the mall or grocery store are way behind me. Call me crazy, but it just seems a bit too desperate for me at this juncture in my life.

This past Sunday my boyfriend and I ventured to IKEA in Sunrise to get ideas on making our apartment more “guest friendly.” Have you ever been to an IKEA? They are enormous!! Walking the length of the entire showroom and warehouse will easily make for your workout of the day. I remember a time when I would have been silly enough to wear heels for such an ocassion or at least wedges, but as stated above, those days are gone. Instead, I opted for KEDS, these adorable polka-dot printed pants and a few embellishments here and there.

What’s your comfort style?
